Founded in 2018 by Ukrainian violinist Andrii Murza, the Odesa International Violin Competition (OIVC) has been postponed indefinitely since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. It was originally founded in memory of violinist Peter Stolyarsky, who opened the first specialised music school for children in the USSR in 1933 and taught violinists such as David Oistrakh, Boris Goldstein, Nathan Milstein, Elizabeth Gilels, Mikhail Fichtenholz and many others. These students contributed to the worldwide reputation of the Odessa Violin School. The last winner in 2021 was the Ukrainian violinist Dmytro Udovychenko, who also won the Belgian Reine Elisabeth Competition in 2024.
In 2025, the competition will take place from 17 to 24 August in Monheim am Rhein and is organised by Monheimer Kulturwerke.
